Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, and all the spices cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, nutmeg
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract
Mix well
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined
Be careful not to overmix; its okay if there are a few lumps
Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturers instructions and lightly grease it with non-stick spray or oil
Pour the waffle batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp, usually 3-5 minutes depending on your waffle iron
Carefully remove the chai waffles from the iron and serve hot
Optional toppings: whipped cream, maple syrup, chopped nuts, or a sprinkle of powdered sugar
